This edition served a double purpose, since the editor-translator, the Jesuit scholar Pierre Poussines, dedicates it to the young French monarch, Louis XIV, who was 13 at the time.
Originally published as part of the great Corpus of Byzantine History (Corpus Byzantinae Historiae), inaugurated at the Imprimerie Royale in 1645.
First part of title transliterated from Greek.
