Summary:This handbook was for members of an early-nineteenth-century Marian confraternity in Mexico City, laying out the duties and giving a brief history. Qualifications and regulations for each member included, for example: leading an honest life with a good reputation; not be suspected of heresy; be racially pure ("Españoles limpios de toda mala raza"); pay what is required by the organization. Members had to make a will. If a member is sick, they will be visted and assisted by fellow members. When he or she dies, the Corrector and prior must be notified. The deceased will be accorded seven Masses and an altar to Our Lady of Sorrows. The indulgences members could gain are listed on pages 15-25.
