Sumario:Franklin B. Williams, Jr., Professor of English at Georgetown University (1939-1974), is best known for his magnum opus, An Index to Dedications and Commendatory Verses in English Books before 1641, 1962. He was an important consultant to Katharine F. Pantzer, William A. Jackson, and F. S. Ferguson in their revised and enlarged second edition of A. W. Pollard and G. R. Redgrave's Short Title Catalogue of Books Printed in England, Scotland, and Ireland and of English Books Printed Abroad, 1475-1640 (STC). The scholarly correspondence which makes up the papers centers mainly on Williams's project to index the dedications and commendatory verses found in English books printed before 1641. Also present, letters relating to the completion of the second edition of the STC and letters exchanged between Williams and scholars working in the literary history and especially literary patronage of Elizabethan England .
