Description
Item Description:Skarga's most popular vernacular work, Lives of the saints, arranged according to the church calendar, with lives of saints celebrated in Jan.-June in Part 1, and those celebrated in July-Dec. in Part 2. Although Skarga's work, first printed in 1579, is based on Luigi Lippomano's popular hagiographic anthology, Sanctorum priscorum patrum vitae (1551-1560), he artistically transformed Lippomano's work by adapting it to the Polish mentality, adding original commentaries, and including new biographies of saints.

Second part has title: "Żywotow świętych wtora czȩśc Starego i Nowego Zakonu na każdy dzień przez cały Rok", with imprint date of 1702.
