The first eight pages contain a response by lawyer Petrus Cerretanus to the petition for canonization of four Catholic missionaries murdered for their faith in Nagasaki, Japan: Dominican Alfonso Navarrete, of Valladolid, Spain; Franciscan Pedro de Ávila; Augustinian Pedro de Zúñiga; and Jesuit Carlo Spinola of Genoa, reviewed by archivist of the Congregatione, Joseph Zambechinus, and prosecutor Andreas Pierius. Appended is the 13-page "Iapponen[sis] index summarii," an index to a compilation of documents concerning the martyrdom of Catholic missionaries in Japan and the Philippines, with references to Father Navarrete, martyred June 1, 1617 (p. 2-3); Father Zúñiga, martyred Aug. 10, 1622 (p. 5); and Fathers Spinola and Ávila, martyred Sept. 10, 1622 (p. 2, 6-7 respectively).
