One of the earliest annual letters devoted entirely to the Philippines, reflecting the inroads made there by the Jesuits in the first decade of the 17th century, and the increasing European--especially Dutch--interest in the region. The letter reviews the mission outposts, including the College in Manila, the region's headquarters, Antipoli, Taitai, Santiago, the island of Pintados, Cebù, Bohol, Dulach, Tinagor & Cariaga, and Ottona. There is also description of the landscape, such as an infestation of crocodiles in Taitai, and description of indigenous peoples, such as the members of the Iti tribe in Santiago who shun daylight and live in caves.
Contemporary vellum binding, with bevelled edges; edges stained blue.
