| 545 | 0 | |a Francis Clement Kelley was born on October 23, 170, in Vernon River, Canada. He was educated in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. On August 23, 1893 he was ordained a priest in Detroit, Michigan, later serving as an army chaplain and captain with the Michigan National Guard during the Spanish-American War. Kelley founded the Catholic Church Extension Society of the United States of America in 1905 in order to help priests and parishes in poor areas of the county. Kelley served as the first president of the Catholic Church Extension Society until 1924 when he was appointed Bishop of Oklahoma. He died on February 1, 1948, at the age of 77. | |
