Summary:Part of the Oral history of the foundation of the CHIPS shelter. Edwin Mohler discusses the history of CHIPS (Christian Help in Park Slope), a Christian charitable organization in Brooklyn, N.Y. dedicated to helping the homeless and the poor. Mohler begins with the genesis of a group called Christian Community who formed out of a frustration with organized religion. He then discusses how they began a campaign to help the poor and eventually the founding of the CHIPS organization itself. He discusses some of the difficulties CHIPS faced, including having to relocate several times and some of the changes in its personnel. He talks about the shift to a nonprofit status. He also talks about help from other organizations and starting the CHIPS shelter at Arthur Sheehan House of Hospitality in Brooklyn.
